Following us on twitter will mean that you will know when we have "Crazy Hour" pricing such as the one we have done a few weeks ago where we reduced EVERYTHING on our site by 50% for one hour only.

We obviously don't do that regularly, but when we do, we only let people know through Twitter. We also tend to do it when something really important is going on such as a world cup game or the queen speech (hint hint).

Faraway Furniture PLANT A TREE COMPETITION: - Win a Complete Sumatra Teak Garden Set worth £1900


As part of our commitment for UNEP's Billion Tree Campaign we are pleased to announce our newest competition.

The Prize:

As part of our commitment for UNEP's Billion Tree Campaign we are pleased to announce our latest competition. The trees planted by the collective efforts of participants aims to help contribute towards worldwide biodiversity.

We want you, along with your family and/or friends to get out in the fresh air and plant a tree. Yes it's that simple! To enter the competition, take a picture of you planting the tree (before, during and after) and e-mail to us here. Each tree will count as one entry up to a maximum of 5 per household.

UNEP Guide on Planting a Tree:
1. Dig a hole at least twice the width of the root ball to allow the roots to spread out. Remove the tree from its container, carefully cut off broken roots, and slightly loosen the root ball.
2. Place the tree in the planting hole. Always lift the tree by the root ball and never by the trunk. Spread periphery roots outwards. Avoid planting the tree too deep. Make sure that the soil line of the young tree is higher than the surface of the surrounding hole.
3. Shovel some soil into the planting hole. Check the planting depth and adjust if needed. Confirm that the tree is straight. Fill the hole gently but firmly. Pat the soil around the base of the root ball.
4. It is not recommended to apply fertilizer at the time of planting. Water the seedling thoroughly with a slow stream of water to settle the soil. Do not stake the tree. The sooner the tree can stand alone, the sooner it will become strong.
5. Provide follow up care. Protect the tree from pests and diseases by removing plants nearby which are likely to affect it. Remove weeds as they will compete with tree roots for moisture and nutrients. Protect the tree from destruction by livestock.
6. If suitable, space trees well to avoid competition for air and soil nutrients, and to encourage the growth of branches. Watch out for drought conditions and provide water if needed, especially during the first few months. Watch out for yellowing of leaves. Always maintain good air circulation in the tree by pruning to avoid pests and other diseases.

Rules:
1. Trees must be native to the UK SEE HERE FOR DETAILS
2. Trees have to be planted on your own private land or where you have written permission to plant by the landlord or owner.
3. The trees need to be permanent. I.e. plant them in a place where growing to a good old age will not disturb any of its surroundings
4. Competition ends 31st March 2010 @ 5pm Winner will be announced on Monday 5th of April.
